US theater productions embracing horror themes
Overview
Theater companies across the United States are incorporating horror themes into their fall season productions.
In Michigan, the Michigan State University Department of Theatre is presenting ‘Midnite,’ a horror-comedy reimagining of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ featuring a supernatural plot. Additionally, the Greatest Escape Stage Company in Marshall is performing ‘Evil Dead The Musical,’ based on the classic film series.
Other regional productions include ‘The Witch’ at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, which retells the 1621 play ‘The Witch of Edmonton.’ In Chicago, the Otherworld Theatre is premiering ‘Midsummer Night Scream,’ a folk-horror slasher reimagining of Shakespeare, while Broadway in Chicago is hosting a remount of the gothic horror musical ‘Jekyll & Hyde.’
