Arezzo jewelry thefts: Four arrested in Romania

Authorities have launched Operation ‘Lancia d’argento’ (Silver Lance) following the arrest of four individuals in Romania linked to a series of thefts targeting jewelry companies in the province of Arezzo, Italy.

The investigation, coordinated by the Arezzo Public Prosecutor's Office and supported by the State Police and Carabinieri, aims to dismantle a criminal group responsible for multiple robberies in 2024. One suspect remains at large.

Evidence gathered from surveillance systems, electronic gates, and telephone traffic helped investigators link the group to at least eight criminal incidents occurring between August and November 2024. One notable theft in Laterina-Pergine Valdarno involved the loss of 1.4 kg of gold, 50 kg of silver, and 10 kg of brass, valued at approximately 200,000 euros. Following the issuance of European arrest warrants, judicial cooperation was activated through Eurojust.
