Jewelry thefts in Arezzo, Italy

Overview

Authorities have launched Operation ‘Lancia d’argento’ (Silver Lance) following the arrest of four individuals in Romania. The group is linked to a series of thefts targeting jewelry companies in the province of Arezzo, Italy.

Coordinated by the Arezzo Public Prosecutor's Office with support from the State Police and Carabinieri, the investigation aims to dismantle a criminal group responsible for at least eight incidents between August and November 2024. One notable theft in Laterina-Pergine Valdarno resulted in the loss of 1.4 kg of gold, 50 kg of silver, and 10 kg of brass, with an estimated value of approximately 200,000 euros. While four suspects have been arrested, one remains at large. Investigators utilized surveillance, electronic gates, and telephone traffic to link the group to the crimes, and judicial cooperation has been activated through Eurojust via European arrest warrants.
