Thermos and fridge: drinks and produce to avoid storing
A thermos should not be used to keep certain beverages for long periods. Milk and dairy drinks can spoil and cause digestive illness, coffee loses flavor and can become bitter, carbonated drinks may build pressure and leak, acidic juices can corrode the container and reduce nutritional value, and medicines should be kept out of the insulated bottle.
Similarly, several vegetables and tubers lose quality or become unsafe when stored in a refrigerator. Tomatoes become soft and lose flavor, potatoes convert starch to sugar and may sprout, onions become moist and moldy, cucumbers and bell peppers develop soft spots, and garlic can sprout or rot. These items are best kept at cool, dry, well‑ventilated room temperature.
Following the recommended storage methods helps preserve taste, nutritional quality, and safety of foods and drinks.
