Theropod dinosaur footprints discovered in Thailand
Paleontologists have confirmed the discovery of six carnivorous dinosaur footprints in the Udon Thani province of northeastern Thailand. The tracks, located in the Phu Phra Bat area of Ban Phue district, are believed to be approximately 120 million years old, dating back to the Early Cretaceous period.
The footprints were found preserved in the sandstone layers of the Phu Phan Formation. Experts from the Thailand Department of Mineral Resources identified the tracks as belonging to a theropod, a group of bipedal dinosaurs that were primarily meat-eaters. The tracks feature distinct three-toed patterns with pointed tips.
Each footprint measures roughly 29 centimeters in length and 26 centimeters in width. Based on these dimensions, researchers estimate the dinosaur had a body length of about 6.3 meters and a hip height of approximately 1.42 meters. While the size is comparable to the previously discovered Siamotyrannus isanensis, the exact species of this particular dinosaur has not yet been confirmed.
