Thessalian Theatre stages Lorca's 'Blood Wedding' in Larissa

The Thessalian Theatre opened its 50th anniversary season with a production of Federico García Lorca’s tragedy "Blood Wedding" in Larissa, Greece. The premiere took place on 1 July 2026 at the B Ancient Theatre of Larissa, and the first three performances (1‑3 July) sold out.

A second showing is scheduled for 15 September 2026 at the Alkazar Garden Theatre, giving audiences who missed the July dates another chance to attend. The staging commemorates both the theatre’s 50 years of operation and the 90th anniversary of Lorca’s death. Kostas Tsianos directed the play, with sets and costumes by Giorgos Ziakas and music composed by Dionysis Tsaknis. The production features a large local cast and crew, highlighting the region’s cultural heritage.

The run underscores the Thessalian Theatre’s role in bringing classic international works to Greek regional audiences and celebrates a milestone in its own history.
