Thessaloniki: 80-year-old woman defrauded of cash and jewelry

An 80-year-old woman in Thessaloniki has fallen victim to a fraud scheme for the second time. The victim, a resident of Stavroupoli, reported that a scammer contacted her via telephone, impersonating her accountant.

The perpetrator claimed to be a person named ‘Fotis’ and instructed the woman to hand over her cash and jewelry to a designated individual to avoid potential government fines. Following these instructions, the woman handed over approximately 2,700 euros in cash and her silver items to an accomplice.

The victim realized she had been defrauded shortly after the encounter and contacted the police. She noted that she did not have gold to provide because it had been stolen from her previously using a similar method. The Pavlou Mela Police Station is investigating the case.
