Greece ferry services disrupted by severe weather and wind
Severe weather and gale-force winds reaching up to 9 Beaufort are causing significant disruptions to maritime travel across Greece. The Hellenic Coast Guard has maintained sailing bans at several major ports, including Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio.
In Piraeus, departures were expected to resume after 09:00, though many scheduled trips remained unexecuted due to the conditions. Nighttime ferry services from Piraeus to Crete were also canceled. In Rafina, most morning trips to the Cyclades were suspended, with the exception of the route to Marmari. Lavrio experienced total cancellations of morning departures.
Meteorological forecasts indicate a new wave of bad weather is approaching, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and snow to mountainous regions. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, potentially falling 5 to 7 degrees Celsius below seasonal norms. Authorities advise travelers to contact ferry companies or port authorities for real-time updates as conditions remain volatile.
