Thessaloniki coastal front plan receives positive endorsement from Central Macedonia Regional Council

The Regional Council of Central Macedonia voted to give a positive opinion on the revised Strategic Environmental Impact Study and its supplementary volume for the Special Urban Plan of Thessaloniki's coastal front. Deputy Regional Governor Kostas Gioutikas noted that the plan is entering a third public consultation after modifications were made following two earlier rounds and comments from 27 organisations and citizens.

Deputy Regional Governor Paris Billias clarified that the council’s endorsement addresses three specific points requested by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, not the entire coastal front. Among the approved changes is the conversion of a 70‑hectare GAIAOSE property, previously allocated to TRAINOSE, into a large park. Additional modifications include rerouting the pedestrian promenade away from power‑plant facilities, redesigning the port area, creating a new square at the Megaro Musikis, and studying the undergrounding of Maria Kalla street.

The decision allows the planning process for the unified coastal front to continue.
