Thessaloniki: Eight face prosecution for attack on former Iraklis president
Eight individuals face criminal prosecution following an attack on the former president of the Iraklis sports club in Thessaloniki. The incident occurred on July 22, 2024, after the former president concluded a meeting at a local hotel.
According to police investigations, a group of approximately 25 to 30 fans approached the individual as he attempted to board a taxi. The group verbally attacked him and attempted to prevent his departure. During the confrontation, the assailants caused damage to the taxi by breaking its front windshield, though no physical injuries were reported.
The investigation, conducted by the Sub-directorate for Combating Organized Crime of Northern Greece and the Department for Combating Organized Sports Violence, utilized video footage and witness statements to identify the suspects. The eight individuals have been charged with offenses including breach of the peace, unlawful collective violence, threats, and damage to property, all with specific references to sports-related violence. Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify other participants involved in the incident.
