Criminal violence incidents in Thessaloniki
Overview
Legal proceedings have been initiated in Thessaloniki following separate incidents of public violence and assault.
In one instance, five men were referred to the Summary Misdemeanor Court after an August 15th confrontation in the Foinka area. The group allegedly attacked a 60-year-old man following a noise complaint and subsequently insulted, threatened, and attacked police officers from the OPKE unit. Authorities seized various items, including hunting cartridges and audio equipment, and the suspects face charges ranging from physical injury to violence against public officials.
In a separate case involving sports-related violence, eight individuals face prosecution for an attack on the former president of the Iraklis sports club. During a July 22nd incident, a group of approximately 25 to 30 fans reportedly targeted the individual as he attempted to board a taxi, causing damage to the vehicle. While no physical injuries were reported, the suspects have been charged with offenses including breach of the peace, unlawful collective violence, and threats.
