Thessaloniki HELEXPO redevelopment project moves toward implementation
The redevelopment of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre (HELEXPO) is moving toward implementation, aiming to transform the site into a sustainable, international exhibition and convention hub. The project is designed to strengthen Thessaloniki’s role as a major economic center in Southeast Europe.
Key components of the plan include the construction of two new bioclimatic exhibition buildings, Hall 1 and Hall 2, and the renovation of the Ioannis Vellidis Convention Center. The project also features the creation of a 120-acre metropolitan park, serving as a green lung for the city, and the addition of 1,064 underground parking spaces to alleviate urban traffic congestion.
The initiative is categorized as a Privately Owned Public Space project, where organization-owned land functions as open public space for the city. The redevelopment is backed by national funding totaling 204.6 million euros through the National Development Program (2026-2030). An international tender has been announced, with a contractor expected to be selected by the end of 2026. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with a target completion date by the end of 2030.
