Thessaloniki low‑vegetation fire prompts major firefighting response

A fire broke out on Saturday 4 July in low vegetation in the Koulafia area of Thessaloniki, Greece. The blaze was reported to emergency services at 112 and quickly attracted a substantial response.

Firefighters deployed nine fire trucks and a helicopter, supported by 26 firefighters, a volunteer hiking group from the 2nd EMODE and local volunteers. Additional water cannons and equipment from the Central Macedonia regional authority were also used. Authorities said no homes or infrastructure were under immediate threat.

The incident highlights the readiness of local emergency services to address wild‑fire risks in the region during the dry summer period.
