Thessaloniki Metro begins western expansion works

The expansion of the Thessaloniki Metro toward the western side of the city has entered its first substantive phase. Elliniko Metro and the contractor AKTOR have signed a contract to begin preliminary works.

The initial contract covers archaeological and supplementary topographical works, as well as surveys to locate public utility networks. These activities will take place at the Eptalofos, Menemeni, Kordelio, and Evosmos stations. The works are expected to last six months.

These stations are four of the eight planned for the new 10.75-kilometer Line 2 branch, which will run from the New Railway Station toward Ano Evosmos and Kordelio. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport clarified that these preliminary works do not imply priority over the planned northwest extension of Line 1 toward Papageorgiou Hospital.
