Thessaloniki Metro closed for three weeks, bus line M1 added

The main line of the Thessaloniki Metro will be out of passenger service from Friday, 29 May until Friday, 19 June 2026 to complete safety tests and system checks on the extension toward Kalamarra. During the shutdown, the public‑transport authority OASTH will activate a special operational plan, re‑introducing the semi‑express bus line M1 along the metro service corridor.

Line M1 will run between Nea Elvetia and the New Railway Station via Konstantinos Karamanlis, Egnatia and Monastiriou streets, using 16 articulated buses on a 7‑minute headway from 05:00 to 24:00 daily. Additional bus services will be expanded on routes IKEA–New Railway Station, Vouliagmeni–KTEL and Kefisia–Courts. Driver licences and station‑master permits will be suspended for the period. The plan mirrors the one used during the previous temporary metro closure in November, aiming to ensure smooth passenger movement despite the interruption.
