Night‑time trial runs of the Thessaloniki Metro extension toward Kalamaria have started, limited to the night hours to avoid disrupting the existing line. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachias inspected the five new stations – Nomarchia, Kalamaria, Aretsoú, Nea Krini and Mikra – and held meetings with officials of the Greek Metro company and the operator THEMA.

The tests are expected to expand to full‑day operation in the coming days, with commercial service planned for the end of August 2026. The extension will add 33 new trains to the network, raising the total from 18, and after the 25 March station the trains will be routed to Mikra and Nea Elvetia in a 2:1 ratio. Temporary schedule changes were announced for 6 August (service ends at 21:00) and 7 August (service starts at 07:00).
