Thessaloniki Metro Kalamaria extension sees 20,000 daily passengers
The Thessaloniki Metro extension to Kalamaria is seeing approximately 20,000 daily passengers since its launch on August 27. The Kalamaria station alone accounts for about 6,000 of these daily trips, likely driven by high commercial activity in the area.
To manage demand and reduce waiting times, the network is undergoing capacity expansions. Six new train sets have already been integrated into the system, while an additional nine are currently undergoing testing and safety checks. Francesco Rosella, CEO of THEMA, stated that the number of operational trains is expected to increase monthly as these new sets pass required inspections.
Currently, the line maintains a availability rate of approximately 99%. THEMA is working in coordination with Elliniko Metro to monitor passenger traffic and implement operational adjustments to optimize network performance and service frequency.
