Thessaloniki Metro service interrupted by technical issue

The Thessaloniki Metro experienced a service interruption lasting approximately two and a half hours on Friday, October 9, 2026. The outage began at 16:11 due to a temporary technical issue identified within the data transmission system.

According to THEMA S.A., the operator and maintenance company, the automated system followed certified procedures and approved protocols during the incident. Trains approached stations and safely disembarked passengers onto the platforms. Following technical inspections, restoration efforts, and safety tests, service resumed at 18:40. Operations have since returned to their normal schedule.
