Thessaloniki: Wild boars surround group of minors in Sykies park

A group of minors experienced a frightening encounter in Thessaloniki when a pack of wild boars surrounded them in a park in the Sykies area. The group, feeling trapped by the animals, contacted emergency services to request assistance. Although police arrived quickly, the youths had initially moved from the immediate spot and were difficult to reach via phone, but they were eventually located and moved to a safe location.

This incident follows a series of increasing reports regarding wild boar incursions in the Sykies region, with animals appearing in residential streets near apartment buildings. Simos Daniilidis, the Mayor of Nea Poleis-Sykies, has called for state intervention, expressing concern over the growing danger to citizens. He described the situation as “Russian roulette” for residents living near the Seih Sou area, noting that the community also faces risks from wolves.
