Thessaloniki New Railway Station to undergo 1.5 million euro renovation
A donation agreement worth 1.5 million euros has been signed to renovate and upgrade the passenger service areas of the New Railway Station of Thessaloniki. The contract was signed by Christos Palios, CEO of Hellenic Train, and Evangelos Chrysafis, Executive Vice President of METLEN, in the presence of government transport officials.
The renovation project focuses on the station's central hall, including the replacement of flooring and seating, new entrances, improved lighting, and the cleaning of marble surfaces. It also includes the creation of a new information point and the renewal of shop facades. Significant upgrades are planned for the eight ticket offices, featuring new signage, glass safety dividers, and improved service counters.
Accessibility is a key component of the project. Works will include the full renovation of basement sanitary facilities, the installation of a lift for persons with disabilities, and the upgrading of stairwells and common areas. Construction is scheduled to begin on September 10, 2026, with an expected completion date of January 25, 2027.
