Thessaloniki prepares for centenary of International Thessaloniki Fair

The International Thessaloniki Fair (TIF) is preparing for its centenary edition. The upcoming 90th anniversary event is scheduled to take place from September 5 to September 13, with Japan serving as the guest of honor.

Founded in 1926 following an idea by scientist and politician Nikolaos Germanos, the fair has become a cornerstone of Thessaloniki’s economic and cultural history. The inaugural exhibition opened on October 3, 1926, at Areos Field, attracting over 600 exhibitors and 150,000 visitors at a time when the city's population was under 180,000.

Throughout its history, the fair has navigated significant challenges, including wartime disruptions and pandemic-related restrictions. It has evolved from a local event into an international institution, marked by historical milestones such as the visit of Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos during its third edition.
