Thessaloniki's Oreochiasto fire triggers state aid applications

A fire broke out on July 4, 2026 in the Oreochiasto district of Thessaloniki, Greece, damaging numerous businesses and other enterprises. The Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki’s Civil Protection Department announced that affected firms may submit applications for state assistance until September 4, 2026.

Applications can be filed electronically via e‑mail ([email protected]), through courier or post, or in person at the department’s office on B. Olgas 198. Eligible recipients include industrial and craft units, commercial stores, agricultural holdings, public enterprises, municipal entities, and non‑profit organisations, as defined by Law 4797/2021. Applicants must provide documentation such as tax returns, insurance policies, inventory records, asset registers, purchase invoices, and any other evidence needed to assess the damage.

The aid programme excludes damages to building structures caused by natural disasters occurring after 26 September 2021, which are now handled by the General Directorate of State Aid. This process aims to help the local economy recover from the fire’s impact.
