Thessaloniki's Pylaia 'Pylaiotika' Festival Runs July 17‑20 with Free Entry

The municipal "Pylaiotika" folk festival in the Pylaia district of Thessaloniki will take place from July 17 to July 20. Events are held in the square of the Petrinos Cultural Center surrounding the historic Church of Prophet Elijah, whose dedicated temple dates back to 1926.

Organized by the Municipality of Pylaia‑Chortati and the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism, the four‑day programme includes free admission, a concert headlined by folk singer Pitsa Papadopoulou, performances by renowned artists such as Mariou and Kostas Pratsinak, and traditional dance groups from the local community. The festival also highlights local cuisine, with senior women serving the customary açem pilafi.

The celebration honors the patron saint Prophet Elijah of Thessby and aims to link the region's cultural memory with contemporary life, drawing thousands of visitors each summer.
