Thessaly Region prioritizes public health funding for hospital infrastructure

The Thessaly Regional Authority has shifted its funding priorities to place public health at the center of its Regional Development Program. This strategic change aims to increase resources for sectors with immediate social impact.

Key completed or ongoing projects include a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit wing and a Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at the University Hospital of Larissa (PGNL). The latter is noted for its importance in preventing patients from having to travel outside the Thessaly region for specialized care.

New initiatives are also underway, including the design of a 1,300-square-meter Day Hospital and Outpatient Chemotherapy building at the University Hospital of Larissa. This facility is intended to meet the growing needs of the Oncology Clinic and will be funded through the region's NSRF (ESPA) programs. Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas has recently conducted visits to hospitals in Trikala and Larissa to oversee these developments.
