Thessaly Region to establish oncology care network in Larissa

The Thessaly Region and the 5th Health Region (YPE) are collaborating to establish a comprehensive oncology care network centered at the University Hospital of Larissa. A key component of this initiative is the creation of a new day hospital facility near the hospital to provide immediate solutions for oncology patients.

The investment includes approximately 10 million euros from the Thessaly Region to strengthen existing clinics, including pulmonary, neurosurgical, surgical, dermatological, and vascular surgery departments. Additionally, the Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit is nearing completion, and a Palliative Care Structure for end-stage cancer patients will be operationalized.

The strategy emphasizes precision medicine through the upgrading of the Pathological Anatomy Clinic with digital analysis systems and advanced histological techniques. These improvements aim to facilitate rapid diagnosis and personalized biological therapies by enabling precise molecular identification of tumors.
