Thessaloniki private clinic oncology allegations

A private clinic in Thessaloniki is facing allegations of operating an oncology department without the necessary legal authorization. Patient relatives have reported severe medical negligence and inadequate care, including staffing shortages that forced family members to perform basic tasks like feeding patients. Specific complaints include medication errors, patient dehydration, and the development of respiratory and urinary tract infections. One report noted a patient was returned in a comatose state following a stay intended for physiotherapy.

Following an investigation by the National Transparency Authority (EAD), it was revealed that the facility provided chemotherapy treatments without required legal authorization and lacked a mandatory Intensive Care Unit. There are further allegations that patients without cancer diagnoses received chemotherapy, potentially involving fraudulent reimbursement claims to EOPYY.

The Regional Authority has revoked the operating licenses for the Thessaloniki facility and a second structure owned by the same entrepreneur in Thermi, ordering an evacuation within 15 days. Despite these orders, reports indicate the clinic remains operational with staff and patients still on-site. One relative described the facility as an ‘executioner.’ The case has been referred to the Prosecutor to investigate both the medical practices and systemic failures in oversight mechanisms.
