Thessaly Region to modernize Volos water supply network

The Thessaly Region is launching a €3,137,200 project to modernize the water supply network in the Neapoli neighborhood of Volos. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the initiative aims to address long-standing issues with water loss that impact system adequacy, particularly during high-demand summer months.

Implemented by the Volos Water Supply and Sewerage Company (DEYA), the project involves constructing approximately 25.6 kilometers of new polyethylene pipes and integrating them with the existing network. A new control zone will be established in Neapoli, featuring modern monitoring systems for water pressure and flow, including valves, meters, and data transmission equipment to allow for rapid leak detection.

The scope of work also includes new private connections, earthworks, and the restoration of roads, sidewalks, and curbs affected by construction. Thessaly Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas stated that the investment aims to improve citizens' daily lives and increase the resilience of essential infrastructure through more rational water management.
