Infrastructure modernization in Volos, Thessaly

Overview

The Thessaly Region is implementing several infrastructure and modernization projects in Volos, funded in part by the European Regional Development Fund.

In early October 2026, the region announced a €3,137,200 project to modernize the water supply network in the Neapoli neighborhood. Managed by the Volos Water Supply and Sewerage Company (DEYA), the initiative involves installing 25.6 kilometers of new polyethylene pipes and modern monitoring systems to reduce water loss and improve pressure management.

Following this, the region approved a €1.2 million energy upgrade for a school complex in the Municipality of Volos. The project aims to improve the energy efficiency of four elementary schools and two kindergartens from a rating of Z to A+. Planned improvements include thermal insulation, new heating and cooling systems, LED lighting, and the integration of renewable energy sources.
