Thessaly Regional Council expands student transport subsidies

The Thessaly Regional Council has approved the continuation and expansion of a student transport subsidy program in collaboration with Urban KTEL Larissa SA. Following a successful initial phase for the ‘Biopolis’ area, the program will now include students from the ‘Geopolis’ area, increasing the total number of beneficiaries to approximately 1,500 students from the University of Thessaly in Larissa.

The program involves a total estimated expenditure of 250,000 euros. Under the new scheme, students can access monthly unlimited travel cards for 15 euros or annual unlimited cards for 100 euros, both representing a 50% discount. The expanded program is expected to launch by mid-November 2026, though administrative efforts aim for an earlier start.

In addition to student support, the Council approved several infrastructure and flood protection projects. These include the maintenance of the Larissa–Thessaloniki National Road (budgeted at 1,350,000 euros) and the restoration of the road connecting the E65 junction to Sofades (budgeted at 800,000 euros).
