Thessaly regional transport and infrastructure developments
Overview
The Thessaly Regional Council has implemented several transport and infrastructure initiatives. Initially, the region approved the reinstatement of a direct bus route connecting Larissa, Farsala, and Athens. This service, managed by Larissa KTEL, provides 110 round-trip services per year to assist residents, workers, and students.
Following this, the Council expanded student transport subsidies in collaboration with Urban KTEL Larissa SA. The program, which provides 50% discounts on monthly and annual travel cards, was extended from the ‘Biopolis’ area to include students from the ‘Geopolis’ area, benefiting approximately 1,500 University of Thessaly students.
Additionally, the Council approved funding for various infrastructure and flood protection projects, including the maintenance of the Larissa–Thessaloniki National Road and the restoration of the road connecting the E65 junction to Sofades.
