Thessaly reports increase in road accidents during August 2026

The Thessaly Regional Police Directorate reported an increase in road accidents during August 2026 across the regional units of Larissa, Magnesia, Trikala, and Karditsa. A total of 23 accidents were recorded, compared to 17 during the same month in 2025. These incidents included three fatal accidents, three serious accidents, and 17 minor accidents.

The accidents resulted in 29 casualties, including three deaths, three serious injuries, and 23 minor injuries. This represents an increase from the 22 casualties recorded in August 2025.

In response to road safety concerns, police conducted 44,293 inspections throughout the region, resulting in 9,861 recorded violations. The most frequent offenses included 1,978 speeding violations, 331 instances of not wearing a helmet, 203 driving without a license, 162 failures to use a seatbelt, and 109 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol.
