Thibau Nys cleared for Vuelta a España after health setbacks

Belgian cyclist Thibau Nys has been cleared by Lidl-Trek to participate in the Vuelta a España despite a difficult 2026 season marked by significant health setbacks. After a spring season interrupted by knee surgery, Nys was recently sidelined by a toxoplasmosis infection that forced him to skip several preparatory races, including the Clasica San Sebastian and the Tour of Burgos.

Nys suggested that the infection may have been caused by consuming steak tartare. However, following a period of successful training and reassuring physiological values, team coach Paul Van Den Bosch confirmed that the team has given the green light for his debut at the Spanish Grand Tour. While the team's primary focus remains on Mads Pedersen and Mattias Skjelmose, Nys is expected to contribute to the squad's efforts.
