Thilamale Bridge expected to open within one year, says President Muizzu
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Thilamale Bridge project, which will connect Malé, Villimalé, Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu, is expected to be completed and opened to the public within a year.
Speaking on the PSM podcast ‘Nation Chat’, the President noted that the current administration took over the project more than two years after it began in August 2021. He emphasized that the Ministry of Infrastructure is closely monitoring progress and that a high-level bilateral committee was established to oversee the work. To ensure quality, the project is being overseen by the international firm AECOM, which previously managed the Sinamalé Bridge construction.
President Muizzu also highlighted the need for increased Maldivian expertise in engineering, science, and technology to support long-term national development and infrastructure goals.
