Thiès University inaugurates new 1,000-bed student pavilion
Minister of Infrastructure and Land Transport Déthié Fall has inaugurated a new three-story pavilion at the Iba Der Thiam University (UIDT) in Thiès, Senegal. The facility provides 1,000 new beds, a 1,000-seat restaurant, and a socio-medical complex.
This project increases the total capacity of the Regional Center for University and Social Works (CROUS) from 1,415 to 2,415 beds, representing a capacity increase of over 70%. The expansion aims to address high student demand and improve living conditions, as previous shortages forced some students to sleep in corridors or share cramped rooms.
The inauguration is part of a broader government directive from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to accelerate the delivery of university infrastructure across the country. Recent similar completions include 2,100 beds in Diamniadio and 1,000 beds in Bambey. The new pavilion also includes accommodations specifically adapted for students with reduced mobility.
