Senegal university infrastructure expansion

Overview

The Senegalese government has initiated a series of infrastructure projects to increase student housing capacity across public universities.

In late September 2026, ministers Boubacar Camara and Déthié Fall inaugurated a 1,000-bed residential complex at the Alioune Diop University of Bambey (Uadb). This facility includes a medico-social center, a 1,000-seat restaurant, and specialized rooms for persons with disabilities. The project is part of a national goal to deliver 10,100 new beds by the end of the year.

Following this, in October 2026, a new three-story pavilion was inaugurated at the Iba Der Thiam University (UIDT) in Thiès. This facility also provides 1,000 beds, a restaurant, and a socio-medical complex, increasing the capacity of the Regional Center for University and Social Works (CROUS) by over 70%. These developments follow directives from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to accelerate university infrastructure delivery nationwide.
