Thomas Chabot named captain of the Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators have named defenseman Thomas Chabot as the team captain for the 2026-27 NHL season. Chabot becomes the 11th player in franchise history to hold the role.

The captaincy became vacant following the trade of former captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers on June 21. Chabot, the team’s longest-tenured player, was selected for the role by the organization. He will be supported by alternate captains Claude Giroux, Jake Sanderson, and Tim Stützle.

Chabot was originally drafted by the Senators in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Over a nine-year career with the franchise, he has appeared in 569 games. Senators president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios stated that Chabot exemplifies the organization’s values through his commitment to the city and the team.
