Thomas Markle under investigation for alleged child abuse material

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has expressed that she is “deeply distressed” following reports that her father, Thomas Markle Sr., is under investigation for the alleged possession of child sexual abuse material.

The allegations surfaced after Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., claimed to have discovered hundreds or potentially thousands of images and videos depicting the abuse of minors in four large boxes at their father’s former residence in Cebu, Philippines. Thomas Jr. stated he reported these findings to the Philippine authorities, the FBI, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Meghan Markle revealed in a statement that she had been aware of “troubling and disturbing” allegations against her father as early as 2018, when a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and the Royalty and Specialist Protection unit. She noted that she was assured at the time that the matter was being investigated, and she cited these concerns as the reason for her decision to distance herself from her father and prevent him from contacting her children.

Thomas Markle Sr., 82, has denied all allegations, describing them as “sick lies.” While the Metropolitan Police is reviewing its records regarding the 2018 letter, some sources suggest the police may not have conducted a formal investigation at that time. The FBI has confirmed it is aware of the allegations and is providing support to Philippine authorities.
