Thompson Rivers University and NVIT sign Indigenous education agreement

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for future collaboration. The agreement, which took effect on August 11, focuses on advancing public education with a specific emphasis on Indigenous studies.

Key initiatives under the agreement include the development of Indigenous language credentials and the offering of TRU credentials in collaboration with NVIT. These programs may be delivered through various methods, including on-campus, virtually, or via other collaborative approaches.

TRU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Airini noted that the partnership aims to advance truth, reconciliation, and Indigenous rights through education. NVIT President and CEO Dr. John Chenoweth stated that the agreement will create pathways to support learners and extend services to Indigenous communities by leveraging NVIT’s leadership in Indigenous knowledge and cultural preservation.
