TRU and NVIT Indigenous education partnership

Overview

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalize a framework for collaboration in public education. Effective August 11, the agreement focuses on advancing Indigenous studies, including the development of Indigenous language credentials and the delivery of TRU credentials through NVIT leadership and faculty.

Programs under this partnership may be delivered on-campus, virtually, or through other collaborative methods. TRU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Airini stated the partnership seeks to “advance truth, reconciliation, and Indigenous rights through education.” NVIT President and CEO Dr. John Chenoweth noted the agreement will create pathways to support learners and extend services to Indigenous communities by leveraging NVIT’s expertise in Indigenous knowledge and cultural preservation.
