Three climbers killed on Italy's Gran Paradiso peak

Three alpinists died after falling into a void on the north face of Gran Paradiso, the highest summit in the Italian Alps (4061 m). The bodies were recovered at about 3600 m altitude by the Valdostan Alpine Rescue service using a helicopter. According to officials, two of the victims were Italian citizens, while the nationality of the third person has not been confirmed.

The incident was reported shortly after the climbers failed to return from a night ascent that began from the Federico Chabod hut in Valsavarenche. Rescue teams located the corpses with GPS detection and are conducting identification procedures at the Cervinia forensic office.
