Three dead and six injured in crash on Bulgaria's Maritsa highway

A severe collision involving two light cars on the Maritsa highway between Haskovo and Harmanli, near the village of Polyanovo, left three people dead and six injured on the evening of 26 July. The two vehicles were carrying Turkish guest workers returning from Western Europe to Turkey. Two adults and a child were killed at the scene; the injured include four adults and two children, all of whom were taken to regional hospitals.

Emergency crews – police, fire and emergency medical teams – responded promptly, securing the site and regulating traffic. Investigators are examining possible causes such as excessive speed, sudden braking or loss of vehicle control. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise greater caution on the roadway.
