Swiss Alps plane crash kills three, including Welsh businessman

A light aircraft, identified as a Cirrus SR22T, crashed in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday afternoon, killing all three people on board. The accident occurred near the Fluhalp sector on the north slope of a mountain in the Leukerbad resort area within the canton of Valais.

Among the deceased is Owain Davies, a 55-year-old Welsh businessman and managing director of the engineering firm Amcanu. Davies, a licensed pilot and former board member of the Wales Air Ambulance, was traveling as a passenger alongside two close friends at the time of the impact. The Foreign Office has confirmed it is supporting the families of two British nationals involved in the crash.

The aircraft had reportedly departed from Lugano, made a stop in Sion, and was en route to Buochs when the collision occurred. The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSI) and the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland have launched investigations to determine the cause of the crash, examining factors such as mechanical status and weather conditions.
