Small aircraft crash in the Swiss Alps

Overview

A small aircraft, identified as a Cirrus SR22T, crashed on a northern slope in the Fluhalp area near the Leukerbad resort in the Swiss Alps. The flight had departed from Lugano and made a stop in Sion before attempting to reach Buochs when the accident occurred.

Initial reports indicated three fatalities, including a 55-year-old Welsh businessman and former Wales Air Ambulance board member, Owain Davies. Subsequent reports from police in the canton of Valais updated the death toll to four passengers.

The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSI) and the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland have launched investigations into the cause of the crash, including the examination of weather conditions and the mechanical status of the aircraft.
