Fires and Explosions Injure Three in Romania and Spark Large‑Scale Responses in Romania and Moldova

An explosion of a țuică cask in Orheiu Bistriței, Romania, injured three seniors (ages 71, 61 and 68) with burns covering 30%, 11% and 9% of their bodies. They were treated by mobile intensive‑care teams and transferred to hospital; police opened a criminal case and are investigating the cause.

A fire broke out in a warehouse on Mihail Sadoveanu street in Chișinău, Moldova, shortly after 01:10 on 16 June 2026. Forty‑three firefighters from the IGSU responded, but no injuries were reported.

In Vaslui, Romania, a grain‑laden truck carrying about 30 tonnes of cereal caught fire while travelling. Nine rescuers and two fire engines extinguished the blaze before it spread to the cargo or the 200 litres of diesel in the tractor’s tank. No casualties occurred; investigators suspect an electrical short circuit was the trigger.
