Three men arrested, 700 g of gold seized in Rome A1 traffic stop
Police on the A1 highway near kilometre 580 in Rome stopped an Audi Q5 after a tip from the Carabinieri of Feltre. The three occupants were detained and the vehicle was searched. Inside a gray laptop bag officers found cash, mobile phones, SIM cards, lenses, a precision balance and a collection of gold jewellery and precious stones weighing about 700 grams. The gold was later identified as belonging to a woman who had been targeted by a fraudster pretending to be a police officer and asking her to hand over her valuables.
All three men were arrested on the orders of the Rome public prosecutor and placed in custody at Regina Coeli prison. The seized items are set to be returned to the rightful owner pending further investigation.
