Three teenage girls fined for reckless motorbike driving in Hưng Yên, Vietnam

On the night of 3 June 2024, three minors – a 13‑year‑old, a 14‑year‑old and a 12‑year‑old – rode a motorbike in Hưng Yên province without helmets. The rider, Nguyễn Thị T., drove the vehicle in a counter‑flow lane, weaving repeatedly along Nguyễn Văn Linh road and ultimately losing control, hitting the road’s central median. All three fell and sustained injuries.

The Hưng Yên Department of Traffic Police, together with local police, summoned the teenagers and the bike’s owner, their father Ngô N. T., to the police station. The participants admitted the violations. Authorities issued administrative fines covering multiple offences – riding without helmets, driving against traffic signs, weaving, carrying passengers beyond the legal limit, and allowing an under‑age person to operate the motorbike. The total penalty amounts to about 28.7 million VND, and the motorcycle (plate 93H1‑383 xx) was temporarily seized.
