Italian police launch sweeping raids against crime in multiple towns

Over the past week Italian police forces—including the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and local municipal police—carried out a series of coordinated operations across the country. In Frosinone authorities identified more than 80 people, arrested a young cocaine pusher and seized stolen copper, while in Reggio Calabria officers stopped nine intoxicated drivers and withdrew seven licences. A maxi‑blitz in Castel Fusano (Ostia) targeted illegal parking, drug possession and unlicensed commerce, resulting in dozens of fines and the seizure of 170 kg of waste material. In Vico Equense a high‑speed chase ended with the arrest of a suspect who ignored a checkpoint. In Taranto a prison investigation uncovered a network that used 37 mobile phones to conduct illicit calls from inside the Carmelo Magli jail. In Cassino two men were stopped while attempting to steal computers from a former regional office. In Priolo Gargallo prosecutors ordered precautionary measures against five suspects, including minors, for extortion, illegal weapons and drug trafficking. In Maranello two men posing as Carabinieri stole jewellery worth €17 000 from an elderly woman. In Napoli a court ordered the detention of 11 people linked to an extortion‑linked kidnapping of a luxury‑car dealer. Meanwhile the Guardia di Finanza reported 72 tax evaders, 137 illegal workers and the seizure of assets valued at more than €45 million during its latest operational period.
