Thunderstorm warnings issued for Kumamoto and Aomori prefectures in Japan

On 21 July 2026 the Kumamoto Regional Meteorological Observatory released a series of thunderstorm warnings covering Kumamoto City and numerous surrounding municipalities, including Yatsushiro, Arao, Tamana, Yatsushiro‑West, Amakusa and others.

The same day the Aomori Meteorological Observatory issued a heavy‑rain and lightning advisory for the Tsugaru and Shimokita areas of Aomori Prefecture. The advisory warns of possible heavy rain, lightning and gusts, and provides detailed technical measures for farmers, such as drainage, protective coverings for livestock facilities, and immediate reporting of damage to local authorities.
