Jena Police report unrest during Thuringian football derby
Police in Jena have reported significant unrest following the Thuringian derby between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt. The incident began with an unannounced fan march involving approximately 1,000 supporters from the Jena home scene, which led to violations of assembly laws, including the use of pyrotechnics and prohibited face coverings.
During the unrest, attempts were made to breach police lines on Stadtrodaer Straße, prompting authorities to use force and threaten the deployment of water cannons. These blockades forced an ambulance to take a lengthy detour to the Jena University Hospital. Investigations have been launched into charges of breach of the peace regarding the attempted road blockades.
Additional criminal activity was reported among visiting fans, including instances of bodily harm and pyrotechnics during their arrival. During the match, an Erfurt player was struck in the leg by a bottle thrown from the stands, though no serious injuries were reported. Police have opened an investigation into attempted bodily harm regarding this incident.
