Thuringia police stop drug‑impaired e‑scooter riders

On 10 July 2026 a 37‑year‑old e‑scooter driver in Meiningen, Thuringia, was stopped by police, tested positive for drugs and taken to a hospital for a blood sample. He was barred from riding, but later that evening was caught again during a general traffic check on Drachenbergstraße, received a second positive drug test, a second blood draw and two administrative offences were filed.

In Pennewitz (Ilm‑Kreis), a 36‑year‑old e‑scooter rider was similarly intercepted; a preliminary test showed amphetamine/methamphetamine and cannabis. His ride was halted, he was escorted to a hospital for a blood sample and a legal procedure was opened. Thuringia’s drug‑crime statistics for 2022‑2023 show a modest rise, with over 7 600 suspects recorded each year.
